While running this morning, I saw a yard sign planted in front of a home. From a distance, it looked like an ad for a roofer or house painter. As I approached, I read “visit our church” on the sign.
I live in a multi-ethnic community populated by Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, and various family mixtures of each. It has been more than fifty years since Christians have been in the majority.
Given all the denominations and all of the churches within each, the market for this religious institution is probably very small.
Perhaps the church merely wanted to encourage congregation pride by displaying the signs. But if it was seeking members, it could have gotten better results by a targeted approach with an attractive special event, effective direct mail campaign, or creation of a social network.
The yard signs were a waste of money.

Mom cracks me up about how she’s training me to speak.
Come on, deep down I’m a dog.
I’m on the official neighborhood greeting committee because I bark so well.
She’s not […]

When the workshop presenters aren’t even paying attention to what’s going on, then you know the bubble has burst. (Noticed via Tim Bourquin.)

Twitter gets a well deserved rap for downtime and other hiccups related to their exponential growth. However, their most recent tribulation is really bad for a social networking service.
Yesterday they lost a bunch of the data in their system about who follows whom on the site. These connections are the core conduits for the […]
