Might make your team communication easier too.
I’m on the board of a Michigan organization with members spread across the state.
Have started using CollectiveX as an online groupsite for our board.
It’s very easy to use.
Has lots of neat functions for chapters.
And it can be free - we have not found the ads too intrusive.
So far, we are pretty […]

Image via WikipediaBmart has just announced the men’s challenge here - so don’t be confused by the strange proliferation of facial hair you’ll see while out and about at the conference…
And, here we go, not to be outdone, here is the womens’ challenge! (and by the way, Ben, this was actually Lindy’s idea…)
Whoever comes to the Association Bloggercon at ASAE’s annual meeting with the coolest, funkiest, cleverest nail polish design wins a bloggerlicious prize!
Use this as an excuse to approach any lovely women you see out there with fabulous nails - it will be a great conversation-starter. And if she looks at you funny and says, WTF are you talking about?, invite her to come an join the fun! It’ll be like a flash mob in action… or something.
Info on the Bloggercon is here. Hope to see y’all there!

I was getting ready to write a post on this subject (How Associations Can Use Facebook), and had a “pile” of bookmarked webpages all ready to read through, but Ben beat me to it!!
So I am not going to reinvent the wheel. Instead, here’s some good links, to add to those in Ben’s post.
- Facecbook’s instructions here. Create a page here.
- How to Set Up a Non-Profit Facebook Page (Wild Apricot)
- Facebook Best Practices (DIOSA communications)
- Facebook Applications for your non-profit page (Wild Apricot)
- Using Facebook Pages to Promote your Blog (Problogger)
That should be plenty to get you started! Any questions about implementation, please post them here, and I’ll endeavor to find out the answers. Thanks!

Heard this on the ASAE listserves:
“If an organization doesn’t innovate, it dies. We have changed a great deal over the years. How do we continue to innovate? How do we continue to broaden our scope? We have to look at our decisions through the lens of how we can continue to innovate. How do we get our members involved in innovation? How do we get members to participate in [the organization’s] future? Can we have our members provide info to us – have a contest, they tell us what we need to do to innovate, change.”
This association will announce this at their annual meeting and put out a call for ideas from their members. What a great way to get people involved, especially perhaps people who don’t usually interact all that much with the long-standing committees or activities of the association, and to get people thinking about the value of their association (to them, to the field, to the community) and how to continuously engage with it and help making it better through their own participation.
Awesome.

Last week, I had the pleasure of once again hearing Malcolm Gladwell speak on judgment, a reprise of his last book, Blink, noting that as a rule, it takes approximately 10,000 hours or ten years to master a field and…

I was so glad to hear that Richard Branson is planning to develop an eco-resort on Mosquito Island in the British Virgin Islands. Beside thinking that wind and solar power really should be a no-brainer in a place like the BVI, I’m just looking forward to seeing that place come back to life.

Okay, let’s have some fun. With J-Nott getting in touch with his inner street thug and sprouting a goatee recently, I’ve come up with a fun activity.
Gentlemen, show up at the Fourth Annual Association Bloggercon at ASAE & The Center’s Annual Meeting on Sunday, August 17 sporting a moustache, goatee, chin fuzz, or full beard and win fabulous prizes. I promise the prizes will be fabulous and unique.
Maddie is holding a similar contest for the ladies (and fortunately, it has nothing to do with facial hair).
