Certification Collision
This is a bit Twilight Zone-ish. My personal certification and the certification which I currently service at work collide. Have known this CPA for a few months, but never saw his company logo until 2 days before I leave.

Don't forget, in addition to all of these brilliant blog posts, you can find a bevy of free articles on my website. I've recently added two new articles to the list.
I typically add one new article per month. You can sign up to receive notices as new articles are posted by clicking here.
Virgil Carter points to two great articles over on his post on the Acronym blog. They are from McKinsey, so to read them you have to register, but you can do that for free (I think it’s worth it!). The…
I just heard about a new open source application for tracking discussion of specific issues in social media (blogs, tags, podcasts, wikis, etc.) online: The BuzzMonitor. This was developed by the World Bank for their own purposes and then released as an open source application. From the about page:
Like many organizations, we started listening […]

ASAE & The Center deserve a lot of credit for the way they’ve interacted with this blog. Since this blog is called Certified Association Executive, they could very easily have asked me to stop using the name, seeing as it is their trademarked term. But if you’ve read this blog for more than a few weeks, you should understand that I’m an evangelist for the CAE program, and by extension, ASAE & The Center. I think ASAE & The Center have shown a very highly developed understanding of how this blog, even though it is constructively critical of them at times, actually serves as a means to engage other people in the association community.
We can’t say the same for the agents for NY Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, unfortunately.
Click through for a very insightful post at CommonCraft about how Rivera’s hired goons are attempting to shut down a fan site like it belongs to some kind of illegitimate cyber-squatter. The fan site is a connecting entity for Mariano Rivera enthusiasts, so to muzzle it is precisely the wrong thing to do. Ideally, the agency should engage the fan site and/or bring the owner on to work for them. At the very least, the agency should offer to buy out the owner of the site to acquire the subscriber base and domain name. Sending a cease and desist order to the community ringleader is the right thing to do — in Bizarro World.
People! Did we learn nothing from the Barack Obama MySpace fiasco? What are you doing to engage the evangelists in your association’s community?

Dennis, David and I all think facebook is a data black hole. All of my data gets sucked in, but nothing can really come out of it. Until now!
I don’t know if this is a new feature, or if it’s just something I stumbled upon, but…
You can get a feed of all your friends’ posted items from this page, once you’ve logged in. And you can get a feed of your friends’ status updates over yonder, again, once you’re logged in.
I sure would like RSS for the news feed, but I only have 27 friends. I guess that news feed would get overwhelming if I had 50 or more friends.
Are there any other RSS feeds in facebook?

Elizabeth Edwards spoke at BlogHer07.
Elizabeth has been active in on-line communities for many years and currently comments on several blogs - including the one that supports her husband’s campaign for US President.
Elizabeth was asked about getting younger adults more involved.
She talked about how when she was in college in the late 1960’s they had the […]
The past four years have been really, really good to me, in no small part because of the VSCPA. I earned my CAE while with VSCPA, and have grown tremendously as an association executive and leader. So it is with some sadness and some gladness that I’m letting you know that my last day with the VSCPA is this Friday. I’m joining the staff of the Virginia Association of REALTORS (VAR) on August 10. VAR is a 40,000 member professional society based in Richmond.
The short version of this story is that I was not looking for a new job, but a new job came looking for me. It was a really difficult decision to leave VSCPA, but in the end, VAR presented an opportunity I just couldn’t say no to.
One of the most exciting things about the new position is that I’ll be leading VAR’s social web strategy and implementation. In addition to this, I’ll continue doing the traditional membership type work like outreach, networking, engagement, experience, and so on.
I’ll have much more to share in the days and weeks to come, but in the meantime, I had to get the word out. I’ve been sitting on the news for a week and just had to get this out there.
